ITC Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work +F (EFAW + Forestry Course)

The ITC First L3 Emergency First Aid at Work (+F) course provides participants with the essential skills to respond to workplace incidents, with additional focus on injuries and risks common in forestry, farming, and remote outdoor work.

Delivered in a one-day, 7.5-hour session, this course meets the requirements of Forestry (+F) and ensures learners are confident in managing life-threatening situations when help may be more than 30 minutes away. Successful candidates receive a certificate valid for 3 years.

Course Structure

This is a combination of both classroom and practical learning.  Learners will cover the following elements during the course:

Core EFAW Modules:

  • Roles & Responsibilities of a First Aider
  • Incident Assessment – Scene Safety & Accident Procedure
  • Management of a Casualty (Breathing & Non-Breathing)
  • Safe Airway Positions (considering slopes, temperature, wind direction, and strong sunlight)
  • Actions When Assistance is More Than 30 Minutes Away
  • CPR & Use of an AED
  • Assisting a Choking Casualty
  • Management of Bleeding & Wounds
  • Managing Shock & Seizures
  • Treatment of Minor Workplace Injuries

Additional +F content includes:

  • Life-Threatening Bleeding (chainsaw injury): haemostatic dressings, tourniquets, wound packing
  • Crush Injury Response
  • Hypothermia Recognition & Treatment
  • Lyme Disease Awareness
