Objective

Aurora Energy Services Ltd was appointed as Principal Contractor by European Energy for the delivery of enabling works at the Kincraig PV Solar Farm in the Scottish Highlands. Spanning 36 hectares and designed to generate 21MW of renewable energy—enough to power over 6,000 homes for the next 40 years—the project required early-phase site preparation and construction support to facilitate successful solar installation.

Challenges

The project presented several site-specific and environmental challenges: Poor drainage and dense clay soils led to significant water logging, impacting road construction. Winter working conditions required adaptation to limited daylight hours, low temperatures, and high winds. Closure of a local trunk road necessitated careful planning to maintain uninterrupted access for agricultural and local traffic.
