Objective

Aurora replaced an aging stairways onNorth Sea offshore assets — a strategic solution to combat significant corrosion of structural steel components. With offshore installation costs high, full stairway replacement is more cost-effective than repeated individual repairs.

The is one of several stairway replacement undertaken, with Aurora delivering the full EPC scope — from survey and engineering to design, fabrication, and offshore installation. Rope access methods were employed to ensure a safe, efficient, and cost-conscious execution in a challenging offshore environment.

Challenges

The project faced several challenges commonly encountered during offshore construction — including exposure to harsh weather and the inherent risks of working at height. These factors often lead to delays, increased safety concerns, and limited access for conventional construction methods. However, the use of rope access techniques helped overcome these challenges by enabling safe, flexible operations in difficult conditions. This approach reduced weather-related downtime, improved access efficiency, and maintained high safety standards throughout execution.

Value to Client

The project delivered significant value to the client by providing a cost-effective solution for full stairway replacement. By avoiding repeated individual repairs, operational disruptions were minimised, long-term integrity was improved, and offshore safety was enhanced.

This approach offers a smarter and more sustainable way to manage aging infrastructure, ensuring continued asset reliability and reduced maintenance costs. Aurora’s solution is efficient, scalable, and designed to support long-term operational performance.
